5 Zebra Care: Intro to Clinical Somatics and a Spinal Spiffy

$30.00

This lesson give a brief overview of Clinical Somatics, also known as neuromuscular re-education. We get into a bit of the neuro-science behind how and why Somatics* works to resolve underlying stress reflexes. You don't need to be able to explain this, or even fully understand it for Somatics to be effective. But in a world prizing extremes in exertion (bigger, better, faster, stronger, more), it is good to know there is big power in subtle work. Less is more. Mindful is powerful. Slower is smarter.

Our practice today may be done from any position. If available, reclined on a Z-fold blanket gives a great orientation to gravity. But the exercises may also be done seated or reclining with a proprioceptive tool to bring awareness to the back body. A Z-fold works reclining or in a chair. An inflated theraball can be a good tool for seated in a chair, too. We will also use our block.

*A capital letter S is generally used when referring to Clinical Somatics, which is a specific neuro-fitness modality. Not to be confused with the general term "somatic" which means a felt sense of the body. Not all somatic work includes specific neuromuscular re-education.
