14 Zebra Care: Udana Vayu, Ascending Air and Yoga Nidra

This lesson explores Udana Vayu, our creative and expressive energy. In a sense, udana is what is left for our endeavors after we have processed and refined whatever nutrients and ideas we've consumed. Udana also governs our waking, dreaming and dreamless sleep states of consciousness, where we have opportunities to resolve, rest and renew. We find udana at the level of the diaphragm, moving up through the communication hub of the throat and shining out in all we do. Our practice includes supporting this creative energy from below, and removing blockages to our sensing and expression. One exercise may be done seated on a chair or standing with a block. Another includes a chair or wall, something to create a "closed chain" with hands and feet, and an invitation to de-weight the upper body if your Soma allows for bending at the waist safely today. Finally, we will experience an introductory Yoga Nidra, a guided mindfulness practice allowing for deep state rest. Please find a well supported position for this part of class, including favorite props for comfort and temperature.
